About the blogger

So you’ve just clicked on a very detailed about me section. So I am in university studying psychology. I love psychology because the human mind is so complex and intriguing.

I currently live in a big Canadian city, in my own apartment with 3 other roommates! I love living in the city and having so many amazing stores and shops all around me. Of course this makes me want to spend more money! Uh oh!
I am a huge advocate for healthy living and eating. I am self-proclaimed cycler, and wake up around 6:00am every morning to go on a 30 minute bicycle ride. I like going earlier because its less busy in the city. Although the city is usually always busy. I also love tracking amazing healthy recipes! My philosophy is what you put in your body is what you get out.

So I also work as a graphic designer/computer programmer part time. So I will be posting a lot of my own design work, and just general design inspiration. I hope you don’t mind! Also if you every need help with your blog design just send me a quick message. I am always happy to help!

I watch a lot of T.V shows….these include Game of Thrones. If you haven’t watched Game of Thrones please go watch it now. Like Seriously. I also watch Suits, Mad Men, and Keeping up with the Kardashians (my guilty pleasure).

Urban Decay Naked Skin and Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream Review

Sunday, 19 October 2014

Hey everyone. I am going to apologize beforehand for being MIA for such a long time. As a lot of you know, I have dry skin, and finding a foundation routine that suits my skin is a very hard task. But I recently have been wearing the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream and Naked Foundation by Urban Decay. So I am going to review those, and what it is like wearing them as a combo. Also, sorry for the bad photo quality, I live in an apartment and don't have a lot of lightening and my camera went out of battery annoyingly. I def need to figure a way around that.

Urban Decay Naked Skin

So this foundation was recommended to me by the Sephora staff. Apparently it is very popular, and claims to be be an ultra light weight foundation, that illuminates and brightens skin, while creating a flawless demi-matte finish. And some more stuff about diffusing spheres which I think is nonsense.

This foundation retails for $39 CAD at Sephora. I got the shade 3.0, and for reference I am a MAC NC25.  I also have been using this foundation for over 2 months now.

Pros: It definitely feels like I am wearing nothing on my face. It makes my skin look pretty flawless after application. Colour matches me perfectly. Really easy to apply with my beauty blender.

Cons: Really liquid. It has a strong powder smell and feel on the skin. If you have dry skin, it can accentuate dry patches on the face and can make skin look cake-face if you don't use proper moisturizing and primer application beforehand. Also it is pricey.

To be honest I did not really like this foundation. It was okay, but I wouldn't buy it again.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream

This BB cream claims to do 5 things: prime, perfect, protect, hydrate, and help remove excess surface oil in one step to create a flawless face in a flash.

This foundation also retails for $39 CAD at Sephora. I got the shade Fair/Light. Ignore the 5 shades photo above, because they recently extended the shade line because of the popularity.

Prime: This BB cream works really well as a primer. When going out, i just mosturize and put this baby on w/o the primer step.

Perfect: It doesn't do this... Unless you already have perfect skin, don't expect a lot of coverage. It has very light coverage if anything. Either wear this with a foundation over it, or you probably will need some form of concealer.

Protect: Has SPF 35 which is awesome!

Hydrate: It does hydrate, and works really well with dry skin but let me emphasize this is not a substitute for a moisturizer. You will need to moisturize your face before applying this.

Help: I don't even know how to like evaluate this.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. This is the best Canadian bb cream I've tried so far. The colour matches me perfectly, and it works perfectly with my dry skin. The only thing I did not like, is the light-coverage. So I usually will add a bit of my MAC select coverup on casual days, and when I want fuller coverage I will put a layer of my Urban Decay Naked Foundation.

So basically I only use my Urban Decay in conjunction with this bb cream. Because this bb cream is like the perfect base. This duo makes my skin look flawless, no jokes. So if you have similar skin problems as me, definitely check out this duo protect combo. And if you have other BB cream recommendations please, please let me know in the comments below!

College Fall Fashion Inspiration

Sunday, 7 September 2014

Hello friends! I am really excited fall is here, because it is a time for new beginnings! A lot of you are now back at school/university/college and ready to study hard (and of course have fun). I am just going to share a couple of photos from my fall/winter 2014 Pinterest board to help inspire some fun fall outfits.

Casual Jeans + Tee

I love this look, because it is very chic/preppy and easy to do. I think you can exchange the super high heeled boots for knee-high leather riding boots, or some lower heel ankle booties. I also love the scarf. I am definitely going to be heading out and purchasing some scarves in this rich brown colour. The bun is also super easy to do. I might post a tutorial for this later!

Cardigan and Collar

I am not sure what the original source of this image is, but if you know please contact me. Anyway I love the thin cardigan paired with the the plaid shirt and some leggings. I feel it is very studious, professional and effortless look. I also love the gold jewellery.

Oversized Knit Sweater

I really love the oversized knit sweater look. The key is to splurge a little bit and buy a good quality wool/cotton/cashmere sweater. They are warm, and cozy and perfect for that cool fall weather.

Leather Skirt

I def think the heels are a bit too much for school. But i love the mustard top paired with the leather skirt. Black tights make this look great for cold weather. I think the shoes should be changed a pair of low-heel ankle wedges though.

Oh and I know i've been a bit AWOL for a while. It is because I have been moving back to university, than setting up my apartment and everything! It is all very exciting! I am def going to get really busy with the school year starting but my goal is to post at least once a week!

So let me know if you will wear any of these outfits to school in the comments below!

Amie Skincare Gift Pack Review

Friday, 22 August 2014

I received this amazing gift package from Amie Naturally KindAmie is a UK based company that sells natural beauty products for flawless skincare. I like this company because the products are derived from natural products such as plant and botanical extracts. So basically all products are chemically free. This is great to people with sensitive skin types (like me!). Read on for my review!

Exfoliating Daily Wash: This face wash deep cleanses pores & exfoliates. It is gentle enough to use everyday. I really loved this product because it does not dry out your skin. You literally can use it everyday like the bottle suggests because it is so gentle and I would argue that it actually nourishes your skin while getting rid of excess dead skin cells. Leaves your skin feeling super soft and smelling good, probably because of the natural blueberry seeds, lemon and green apple. And remember lemon  can help level out the phD of your skin if your acne prone!

Deep Cleansing Mask: I would personally use this product around 3 times a week in the evening when you just want to kick back and relax. This deep cleansing mask purifies pores, combats oiliness & blemishes. It contains peppermint and lime extract to purify and cool. The peppermint makes this product feel super refreshing on your skin and face. The lime is great for acne and acne marks because it contains Vitamin C which is a known agent for fading out blemishes. After using this product, you will def be feeling calm, cool and collected.

Hydrating Daily Moisturizer: Okay, most of you know that I suffer from dry skin. A good moisturizer is always a must for me. I am happy to say that this one is absolutely lovely. This product really hydrates my skin, and just makes it look more healthy. Also my makeup has flawless application after using this as a base. I think its the combination of this product and the exfoliating daily wash. It smells great because of the rose extract and rosehip seed oil and mallow. When I first read that on the ingredients, I thought it would be irritating to my skin. But the rose smell is very light and fresh, and my skin is reacting perfectly.

Matte-Finish Moisturizer: So now I moisturize my face twice in the morning using each of Amine's moisturizers. This one is true to its name. It gives a matte-finish perfect for the "blank canvas" look for applying makeup. No shine & no oil. This product is great for people suffering from a lot of breakouts because of oiliness. This one is more light-weight. If you have dry skin get the Hydrating Daily Moisturizer, and/or use both (like me!).

I really enjoyed using these products. Mostly because they are chemical-free, and dermatologist tested. They don't feel like the other products on the market loaded with chemicals. They feel very refreshing, natural, and pure on the skin. I also like it because this product is created in England. I love European beauty products because they tend to be higher quality.

These products are hitting the self at Shoppers Drug Marts as of August 2014! So Canadians, head out to your local Shoppers and check these out! I went to check them out, and as a side note the prices are pretty stellar. Around $10 for each product. Considering they are all-nautural, I think that is a deal breaker!

Let me know if you are going to head out Canadians and check these out xxx. If your not Canadian you can always order them online

Guest Post: Everyday Makeup for School

Sunday, 17 August 2014

I know a lot of schools are strict on make up rules, well my school was anyway, so I thought I would share with you a natural makeup look that you will get away with at school. I know how stressful it is in your teenage years when you want to try look your best for school but the teachers won't let you, so hopefully you will get away with this makeup. I know a lot of people who go to school are on a low budget, so I've tried my best to just use drugstore products to keep the price down.

I start off by applying the Garnier BB Cream for Combination to Oily Skin in Light, I feel that BB creams are great for school as they only give a light coverage so teachers are less likely to notice you have anything on. To cover up any blemishes and under eye circles I use the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in the shade Cool Medium, this concealer really is great at covering everything up to make your skin look flawless. To finish off the base I apply the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder to set everything and make the look more matte.

You do want to try and keep your makeup to a minimum, so for eyes I just use my Soap & Glory Primer to keep any oil off the lids then just apply the Maybelline Falsies Mascara just to open up the eyes and make you look a bit more awake. I wouldn't apply eyeshadow for school as is it quite obvious that your eyelids aren't naturally coloured so eyeshadow would give the makeup look away.

The final step is to apply blush so that you don't look washed out, you want to stick to a more natural blush colour so I just use the Sleek Blush in Pink Mint from the Pink Lemonade palette (the shade on the left).

That's all for this everyday makeup look, it's just enough to make you look covered up but not too obvious for teachers to notice. What is your school makeup look? Tell me in the comments below.

I hope you all enjoyed Lauren's post from daisy drops. Daisy Drops is a fun beauty blog that covers a variety of topics from nails to eyeshadow! So def check her out for more posts like this!
